Try a new recipe and change breakfast

It can sometimes be difficult to think of exciting, new and, most importantly, healthy options for morning breakfast. Too often we fall into the habit of preparing a bowl of cereal or a few slices of toast with a hastily scraped-on layer of butter before dashing out the door. Breakfast in particular seems to suffer the most from the demands of work and family.

Making a breakfast fit for a king is not as difficult as it may seem. There are many ways to make breakfast a memorable, exciting and, yes, easy experience. With a little preparation and a little imagination even the busiest people can have nutritious and filling breakfasts. Anchor Dairy has some suggestions.

Preparation is key. Take some time on Sundays to bake up a batch of muffins or a loaf of wholemeal bread for the week. Blueberries are full of antioxidants and vitamin C and add a juicy pop to breakfast muffins. They take only 25 minutes to whip up and can be reheated in your oven or microwave in the morning for a warm and healthy treat. Check out a quick and easy recipe on Anchor's website.

Scones are not just reserved for afternoon tea. Try them toasted and buttered, with a generous dollop of strawberry jam. Add sultanas when baking to add a fruity kick to the recipe. These scones are most definitely a treat still warm from the oven.

Or try a delicious loaf of banana bread. Make a few loaves whenever you have time and put one or two in the freezer for a rainy day. A couple of slices toasted with a generous spreading of butter is a perfect accompaniment for your morning cup of coffee (or hot chocolate for the little ones). You can find the banana bread recipe and many more on

Remember your five-a-day. Drink a glass of freshly-squeezed orange juice, stew up some apples and add them to your morning yoghurt with a splash of maple syrup. When you consider the fruit in the muffins and the bread you are well on your way to your recommended daily allowance before even starting the day.
